| Key Stage 2 (Year 3 to Year 6) |
| Key Stage 2 is a happy, busy, stimulating environment where each and every child is valued, cared-for and nurtured. Each day our aim is to develop the children’s strengths and abilities and promote a love of learning. Our children are curious, excited by the learning process, and typically very keen to take full advantage of the extremely wide range of opportunities available to them at Vernon Lodge. |
Key Stage 2 continues to build on the foundations formed in KS1 and maintains the strong tradition of high standards in Literacy and Numeracy. We aim to cover the national curriculum and go beyond it! Other subjects taught are IT, Science, History, Geography, Religious Education, Music, PE, Art, Design and Technology and PHSE (personal, social and health education). Certain subjects are taught by specialist teachers.
Exam preparation is integrated into the curriculum in Key Stage 2; the school has an excellent record of results in senior school entrance and scholarship examinations. These results confirm that the type of education on offer at Vernon Lodge really does work. Indeed some pupils achieve academic success which they may have thought beyond their reach.
Once senior school examinations are over, Year 6 children take part in ‘TOPS’- please take the time to read more about this on our ‘TOPS’ page.
We have a lot of fun in Key Stage 2. Life here is busy and purposeful and incorporates much laughter during the course of every day. The atmosphere buzzes with an immensely rich curriculum where learning is valued. Residential trips, including visits to France and adventure holidays are arranged for Years 3 to 6 and are very popular.
Homework must be done by all pupils, and a homework diary is signed by parents on a daily basis. Key Stage 2 pupils may join ‘Prep’, an after school facility for homework.
At Vernon Lodge we believe that children learn best when the feel happy, secure and valued. The House system of merits continues through the school and provides the opportunity for formal recognition of personal success and achievement.
