Key Stage 1

Key Stage 1
The school has a strong tradition of high standards of Literacy and Numeracy. Pupils are encouraged to develop mental skills using a variety of strategies, and self-confidence in speech and composition. We cover the national curriculum and aim to go beyond it. Our new reading scheme is hot of the press – The Bug Club – which not only allows for the importance of reading a hard copy book but the opportunity to read online through the ebooks! Specialist teachers are introduced in some subjects from Year 1. Other subjects taught are IT, science, history, geography, religious education, music, PE, art, design and technology, PHSE (personal, social and health education).French is taught from Reception and the standard of spoken French is very good. Homework must be done by all pupils, and a homework diary is signed by parents on a daily basis. A house system of merits is used as an incentive for pupils in all aspects of school life – success is encouraged, celebrated and rewarded!
