It seemed the gods would be smiling down on the sports field of Vernon Lodge today. It was a quite overcast as the children gathered in the playground in preparation for Sports day on the school field. A few spots of rain were felt, but the clouds parted and there was a brief glimpse of sunshine.
The children gathered on the field, a great number of parents came to show their support, and as always the “Friends of Vernon Lodge” were working hard in the pavilion providing tea, coffee and cakes.
The children had great fun showing off to their parents their sports skills including High and Long Jumps, and Ball Throwing. The main part of the field saw a lot of action with our Kindergarten, Lower Prep, and infants running as fast as they could in the flat races and sack races.
Sadly the rain came back with a gale force wind and the rest of the sports events had to be postponed. Everyone agreed that the children had displayed a high conduct of sportsmanship, encouraging each other during all the events.
The remaining High Jumps, Year 5 & Year 6 Circuit Races and Obstacle Races will now be held on Wednesday 5th June at 2:30pm.
