Sports Day Take 1

It seemed the gods would be smiling down on the sports field of Vernon Lodge today.  It was a quite overcast as the children gathered in the playground in preparation for Sports day on the school field.  A few spots of rain were felt, but the clouds parted and there was a brief glimpse of sunshine.

The children gathered on the field, a great number of parents came to show their support, and as always the “Friends of Vernon Lodge” were working hard in the pavilion providing tea, coffee and cakes.

1-Sports Day part 1The children had great fun showing off to their parents their sports skills including High and Long Jumps, and Ball Throwing.  The main part of the field saw a lot of action with our Kindergarten, Lower Prep, and infants running as fast as they could in the flat races and sack races.

Sadly the rain came back with a gale force wind and the rest of the sports events had to be postponed.  Everyone agreed that the children had displayed a high conduct of sportsmanship, encouraging each other during all the events.

The remaining High Jumps, Year 5 & Year 6 Circuit Races and Obstacle Races will now be held on Wednesday 5th June at 2:30pm.

Tudor Times

Year 3 & Year 4 took a visit this week to Selly Manor as part of their ongoing Tudor projects.  The children were able to dress in traditional costume, learn about the eating and drinking habits of the typical Tudor, and how their homes were built.

The children thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the Selly Manor and we will look forward to seeing their completed projects at the end of the term.

Inspiring A Love of Learning

Children love to learn.  Watch a young child and you will often see them gaze at the world around them in wonder.  They are natural sponges, their brains are always processing.  They learn through copying, through adventure, through play.

1-Brewood Library Visit

Kindergartens recent visit to Brewood Library gave the children the opportunity to learn about books, to start to inspire a love of reading, a love of learning.  This will continue through their journey at Vernon Lodge Preparatory School, with our own library resources, more visits and trips, and our excellent Bug Club reading scheme.

Vernon Lodge Preparatory School is a place that inspires children.
